Sivells Bend Teachers
Ms. Simmons has taught at Sivells Bend ISD since 2007. Previously she taught 7th grade Math & Technology at Gainesville Jr. High. She received an Associate of Arts and an Associate of Science degree from
Ms. Simmons enjoys teaching and loves to see children's eyes light up when they learn something new! She has two wonderful children,
Mrs. Martin taught four years in Oklahoma prior to moving to Texas. After graduating in 1992 from Ringling High School, she attended college at Oklahoma State University to pursue her childhood dream of becoming and Elementary teacher. She is certified in Oklahoma and Texas from grades Pre-K through 8th. Mrs. Martin is also Sivells Bend’s Testing Coordinator.
Mrs. Martin says, “I am blessed to be a part of the wonderful little community of Sivells Bend.” Her husband, Chad, has lived on the family ranch two miles north of the school for 43 years. This is where he and his children went to school. Chad’s enthusiasm and pride for Sivells Bend has definitely been contagious, Mrs. Martin states. She has grown to love Sivells Bend just as he does.
Mrs. Martin believes and regularly states, “It is the responsibility of the school to be ready for the child. It is not the responsibility of the child to be ready for the school.”
Mrs. Gunter's undergraduate and graduate work was done at East Central State University in Ada, Oklahoma. Her undergraduate majors were Elementary Education and Home Economics, with minors in science and social studies. Her Master's degree is in Elementary Education. In December 2013 she completed 42 years in the classroom. She taught science in Seminole, Oklahoma, and Occupational Orientation at Southern Oklahoma Vocational Technical School in Ardmore, Oklahoma before she began teaching in the elementary grades. She taught in Lone Grove, Oklahoma, then in Ardmore until her retirement from Oklahoma schools. She is in her 13th year at Sivells Bend. In addition to 3rd and 4th grade, she teaches 7th and 8th grade science and is the dyslexia coordinator.
She and her husband, Jerry, have lived south of Lone Grove for 39 years. They have two adult sons, both of whom are graduates of Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma. Brian is a speech and drama teacher at North Mesquite High School in Texas. Jeff works for MidCon Energy Services as a pumper. His wife Susan is the 5th-8th Language Arts teacher at Sivells Bend. The two of them are parents of the Gunter's only grandchild, Ethan Cole.
Mr. Tipps coaches the girls volleyball team and the boys and girls basketball teams. He also coaches boys and girls track.
Rod graduated High school from Ardmore, Oklahoma, class of 1992. Go Tigers! In 1992, he started his college years at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. Again, Go Tigers! He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Education. Rod started teaching school in McKinney Texas in 1999. He has also taught in Wylie, Texas. He obtained a master's degree in School Administration in 2007.
Coach Tipps thinks of all the schools at which he has taught , Sivells Bend is the best. He says, "Our students are great, their parents are supportive, and the community is wonderful."
This is Mrs. Downey’s second year at Sivells Bend ISD. She was previously at Sanger ISD for three years where she taught Kindergarten and Third Grade. Mrs. Downey graduated from NCTC with an Associates Degree in 2005 and then from TWU with a Bachelors Degree in 2008.
Mrs. Downey loves children! She enjoys teaching them new things and helping those who struggle. She has four children of her own. Her oldest daughter is 22, married and in the Navy. Her second daughter is 19 and is in the Army. Her third daughter is 18 and is a Sr. at Valley View High School. Her son is 15 and is a Sophomore at Valley View HighSchool. Mrs. Downey has been married for 26 years.
Mrs. Downey loves to read, draw and make crafty things. She is excited to be working here and loves being able to provide personal attention to each student that needs it.

Mrs. Humphreys is privileged to be able to begin her teaching career at Sivells Bend ISD.
Mrs. Humphreys grew up in Valley View, TX and attended Valley View ISD, graduating as Salutatorian of her class. She received her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Tarleton State University in 2010. She is currently certified in 4-8 Math/Science.
Mrs. Humphreys has been married for 2 years to Trevor Humphreys who works at Coserv Electric in Corinth, TX and also volunteers year-round for the North Texas Fair and Rodeo in Denton, TX.
Mrs. Humphreys found her love of teaching with her first job as a teenager. She taught swim lessons at the Denton Water Park for the summer and knew exactly what she would do once she got to college. She loves to see the “light bulb” moment in every student. She is eager to be working at Sivells Bend ISD and is looking forward to teaching each and every student.
